We all dream of having smooth, flawless skin that creates the perfect base for makeup. One of the most common concerns, however, is enlarged pores. No matter how good your foundation or primer is, large pores can still show through, making makeup look less smooth and polished.
After trying different products and techniques, I finally discovered a simple DIY trick that gives an instant skin-tightening effect and makes pores appear visibly smaller. It creates a smoother canvas for makeup, helping foundation apply more evenly while leaving the skin looking naturally radiant and fresh. If you're looking for an easy at-home solution for minimizing the appearance of pores before makeup, you'll love this DIY.
The secret to smoother, tighter-looking skin might already be sitting in your kitchen! Yes, you read that right. This simple DIY face mask uses just two ingredients that can help your skin look firmer and more refreshed before makeup.
Ingredients
1 egg white
3–4 drops of fresh lemon juice (Skip the lemon if you have sensitive or irritated skin.)
Why These Ingredients Work
Egg White:
Egg white is rich in protein and albumin, which can temporarily make the skin feel firmer and tighter. It also contains vitamins and minerals that help nourish the skin and protect it from environmental damage caused by free radicals.Lemon Juice:
Lemon is naturally rich in vitamin C and citric acid, which can help brighten dull-looking skin and gently exfoliate dead skin cells. It may also give the skin a temporarily tighter appearance. However, because lemon juice can be irritating and increase sun sensitivity, always do a patch test first, avoid using it on broken or sensitive skin, and rinse it off thoroughly before applying sunscreen if you're going outdoors. How to Make and Apply the DIY Face Mask
Separate the egg white into a clean bowl.
Add 3–4 drops of fresh lemon juice (optional—skip this step if you have sensitive skin).
Whisk the mixture until it becomes light and slightly frothy.
Using a clean brush or your fingertips, apply an even layer all over your face, avoiding the eye and lip area.
Leave it on for 15–20 minutes, or until the mask feels dry and tight.
Rinse off with lukewarm water and gently pat your skin dry.
After cleansing, follow up with your favorite serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen (if you're heading out). Your skin will feel refreshed, smoother, and temporarily firmer, creating a beautiful canvas for makeup application. You may also notice that your makeup goes on more evenly and looks more flawless.
What Results Can You Expect?
This DIY face mask won't permanently shrink your pores, but it can temporarily make your skin feel firmer and smoother. It also helps reduce excess oil, leaving your complexion looking fresh and creating a more even base for makeup. If you use it before a special occasion, your foundation and primer may apply more smoothly.
Precautions
Always do a patch test before using lemon juice on your face.
If you have sensitive, dry, or irritated skin, skip the lemon and use only egg white.
Avoid applying the mask around your eyes or on broken skin.
Use this DIY mask only 1–2 times a week.
If you're using lemon juice, apply sunscreen before going outdoors, as it can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight.
Final Thoughts
This simple DIY face mask is one of my favorite quick skincare tricks whenever I want my makeup to look smoother and more flawless. While it isn't a permanent solution for large pores, it can temporarily tighten the skin and create a beautiful, refreshed-looking canvas before makeup.
